January - 2012 - Washington, MO
Winter, 2012
January is always a fun time of the year for me. The beginning of a new year, and the month that brings some much needed downtime after the craziness of the holiday season. Washington, MO is a place dear to my heart as I pass through it to get to my families property in Gasconade County many times a year. These images capture some shots of a small Midwest town that at one time was a bombing hub for river and rail trade. Still till this day though the tracks are active that run through the town and barges can be seen hauling grain down the Missouri River, but as you know times have changed a bit as most shipping of goods happen via air and delivery trucks. Still this community, rich in farmland, produces a steady local commerce and offers "city folk" a place to escape that is only about 45 min. outside St. Louis City. Local dinning, antique shops, and other local craft fare make it a great place for a weekend visit, and a great place to start out or end your winery trip to Hermann, MO which is only about 30 - 35 min. down Highway 100 past Washington, MO.
If you are a St. Louis native do yourself a favor and explore our beautiful state. It is rich in history and offers some of the most beautiful scenery of any Midwestern state in my opinion!
